Adriana Calcanhotto arose in the national scenario in the 80’s and, two decades later she is a reference, not only for popular music, but also for the show business: in music, while revealing her modernity in speech and delicate harmony; in her carrier, as she reached a perfect balance between quality and popularity. She thus conquered the music taste of Brazilians, with the delicate, subtle touch of her songs.
Adriana’s path starts in the south of the country, in Porto Alegre, the city where she was born, in October 1965, from a mixture of Italians and Portuguese. Her mother was a ballet dancer; her father, a drummer. She grew up in a harmonious environment so that the girl, at the age of 13, could adventure and compose songs. In Adriana’s musical discoveries, there was not only the fine singing of João Gilberto or the intricate inventions of Miles Davies, but also the super popular hits of AM radio stations. She developed an unprejudiced musical taste. Her debut was in the bars of her Porto Alegre in 1984 and, four years later, she was a sensation when she took part in Brazilian star - Rita Lee’s concert. She was the mysterious bombshell that entered the stage during the song Miss Brasil 2000 wrapped in a black cape, opening it to reveal her nudity for a few seconds. Not too many people associated Miss Brasil 2000 with the singer, since the beginning of that year she had been introduced to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro audience, result of her experiences, a year before, with the director of the Luciano Alabarse theater, still in Rio Grande do Sul. Her first album, Enguiço, was released in 1990, same date as her first tour around Brazil, and one particular song, Naquela Estação (Caetano Veloso/João Donato) won over the public as the sound track of a very popular soap opera, TV Globo’s A Rainha da Sucata. The singer received the female new singer award in the 4th Sharp Music Award. After her dazzling debut and over these more than 20 years of career, Adriana released another six albums, produced hits as a composer and expanded through other segments of art: poetry, composed the music for the verses of Portuguese Mario de Sá-Carneiro and French Jacques Prevért. In the plastic arts, she got involved with the work of Lygia Clark and Helio Oiticica and in the conception of album covers. In the cinema and ballet, while composing soundtracks for documentaries and shows as those of the Cisne Negro Ballet Company; and also in fashion shows, as those of Luiza Marcier, Maria Bonita, Maria Cândida Sarmento. Since 2003, under a contract with BMG - Ariola, now SONYBMG she took over the heteronym Adriana Partimpim and, with this character she released an album and launched a successfully ravishing concert, in a successful proposal where she registers the contemporaneous view of children songs. Abroad, Adriana Calcanhotto has developed a career in Portugal and Argentina, frequently visiting these countries to release albums and to tour, always before a faithful and loving audience. |
